【ABA】
When I was working in the field of therapy and support for children and adults with severe intellectual disabilities and behavioral disorders, I often relied on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). By thoroughly inquiring and exploring, on a clinical basis, “why such behaviors occurred,” I was able to weave meaningful relationships between myself and those who needed support. This process played a significant role in fostering those relationships and, in many ways, served as a source of emotional support for me as well.
Now, in the context of organizational HR, I use ABA methods to analyze situations and conditions. However, I have noticed that one of the drawbacks of ABA—the tendency to prioritize behavior above all else—often arises when the approach becomes self-centered. Specifically, this occurs when the reasoning shifts to something like, “I feel inconvenienced when the other person cries, gets angry, etc.,” making it about oneself rather than genuinely focusing on the needs of the other person![]()
